The nut of this article is built on a false premise, and that's not because I'm a Twins fan. As any TV person will tell you, media market size is not an apples to apples comparison. If you looked at the households in just the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro it would be similar in size to the Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, etc. However, the Minneapolis DMA (designated market area) covers most of the state, save for counties close to Fargo, Sioux Falls, Rochester and Duluth and some of those bleed over into two DMAs. In fact, some Wisconsin counties fall into the Minneapolis DMA as well. What you really need to look at is the amount of consent fees "small market" teams get from radio, RSNs (Regional Sports Networks) and local TV (if any). Then you might have something.

One other point which you didn't even touch upon is the relative affluence of the that TV audience. I'd be willing to bet the Twin City's residents have a higher % of disposable income than most of those other cities listed as well.
