Prospect of the Day: OF Trent Clark, AZL Brewers
The Brewers’ 2015 first-rounder had the most-difficult legs of the cycle — double, triple, homer — completed by the end of the fourth inning. He didn’t collect his single until the top of the ninth. It came on a ground-ball single to center field. Ultimately, Clark stuffed the stat line — he even stole a base and got hit by a pitch — and is now hitting .375/.483/.667 through his first seven games.
Scouts adore Clark’s hit tool. He has a great feel for the barrel and can square up both fastballs and offspeed stuff. His development will hinge on augmenting his plate discipline and pitch recognition as he faces better offspeed pitches, as well as his power. Some feel that Clark may be destined for left field, which would put pressure on his bat to be more than a high-average hitter. The early returns have been positive, though, as he has four extra-base hits through seven games.
