Prospect of the Day: RHP Cy Sneed, Brevard County
The Brewers selected Sneed in the third round of the 2014 draft, so he’s been mostly overshadowed by the three high-profile prepsters (Medeiros, Gatewood, and Harrison) drafted ahead of him. However, Sneed quietly posted a 2.68 ERA through 77.1 innings for Class-A Wisconsin, earning a promotion, and has followed up with a 3.00 ERA in three starts at High-A Brevard County, including Wednesday’s brilliant outing. With an over-the-top delivery that features a fair amount of spine tilt, Sneed sits in the low-90s with his fastball that he commands rather well. He also features a split-change and a curveball in the high-70s. It’s not an impact profile; however, he has the building blocks of a back-end starter, given his three-pitch repertoire and the fact that he has only walked 18 batters in 96.1 innings this year. The young right-hander has tremendous facial hair in his Timber Rattlers profile picture, too, which is just icing on the cake.
