Prospect of the Day:  3B Tucker Neuhaus, Wisconsin

When the Brewers drafted Neuhaus in the second Competitive Balance round of the 2013 draft, the club understood that they were getting a long-term project. Not only did he miss developmental time in high school due to a heartbreaking family tragedy, but he was also one of the youngest members of the 2013 draft class — which can be seen by the fact that he just turned 20 in June, two-plus years after he was drafted.

It’s been a long haul for Neuhaus. He’s a career .237/.306/.331 hitter in the minors, sometimes losing playing time to other prospects in rookie league. Things appeared to be heading along a similar path in 2015, until he’s suddenly caught fire in August. After failing to eclipse the Mendoza Line in July, the Florida native is hitting .309/.392/.485 in August with seven doubles, one triple, and a home run. He’s in the midst of a six-game hitting streak, with four-consecutive multi-hit games. It’s too early to make any meaningful conclusions about Neuhaus’s torrid month; however, it’s nice to see the young man finally find some success at the plate as a professional. The question becomes whether he’ll be able to build on this performance in fall instructionals.

Are you okay with Lara & Clark being sent to Helena? They’re awfully young, you know…

It’s an aggressive promotion, but I don’t have a problem with it — as it’s for a very short time. If there’s one thing we’ve seen with Ray Montgomery, though, it’s that he’s willing to push young players quickly.
