Prospect of the Day:  C Dustin Houle, AZL Brewers

A former eighth-round selection out of Canada in the 2011 Draft, Houle is nearing the end of his long rehab from Tommy John surgery, playing in Arizona with the complex-league team. He’s never been much of a prospect with the bat. Instead, his calling-card has been his potential behind the dish. On Monday evening, though, Houle enjoyed a banner offensive night. He went 2-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and his first home run since 2013.

It’s crazy to think that despite being drafted four years ago, Houle is only 21 years old. He has lost valuable development time; however, he’s young enough that his professional career hasn’t been decimated by injuries. It has simply been delayed a couple years. As it stands, Houle doesn’t project to be more than an organizational player, but any projections are working with scouting reports that are two years old. He needs to restart his career and his development, and that journey has begun in Arizona this summer.
